Fernie in Brief
Good-value and uncrowded slopes, extensive piste grooming, a friendly atmosphere, good snow record and well-suited to families.
Fernie has been likened to Argentière without glaciers, a wonderfully challenging ski area in a lovely corner of BC that has the topographical potential to become the new Whistler. International powderhounds tend to rate Fernie in their top five destinations in North America. Few destinations can offer such premium pistes and powder within the infrastructure of a modern ski village that is backed by all the charm and historical association of an attractive Victorian railway town.
Eating Out
The Wood on the Hill is the best proper lunch option. Kelsey's in the Cornerstone Lodge in the village centre has English-style fish and chips and Mexican dishes, as well as ubiquitous chili and burgers. Lizard Creek Lodge has a reasonably-priced bar menu.
The Skiing
This is one of these rare resorts that truly suits all levels, and its compact size lends itself particularly well to families. It has a good beginner area at the base, and plenty of tree skiing for all standards. However the real action is found in the series of five deep powder bowls that stand side by side beneath the 2000m peaks of Elephant Head, Polar Peak, and Grizzly Peak. These provide an astonishing variety of challenging terrain that will keep a strong intermediate or advanced skier happy for a whole season.
The Investment Choice and Style
This resort is an extension of an existing popular ski destination in British Columbia. The resort will consist of a luxury hotel, ski lodges and apartments are available. There is a choice of buying an apartment as a whole, Fractional Ownership and even the option of purchasing into the hotel through a closed ended property portfolio investment (CEPP). The option of buying into the hotel through the CEPP route starts from as little as 16,000. See flow diagram in the picture section to see how the product works.

Over the past ten years this small and once unfashionable resort has achieved pipe-dream fame as luxurious apartment blocks and mountain homes sprouted around the ski village.
Real estate developers have now started on a CDN$1.5 billion development between the ski area and the old town that is the setting for a Greg Norman championship golf course due to open in 2007. To their surprise and delight 30 of the first 50 homes attracted British buyers. Nearby Cranbrook airport has got the go-ahead to increase its runway to take large airliners, and the whole region looks set for its biggest boom since the 19th century Gold Rush.
